Maui and the great fish

MAUI AND THE GREAT FISH

When the brothers said to maui that there going fishing tomorrow maui begged them to go with his brothers but they all agreed that there was little room on the canoe and needed the space for all the fish that they will catch the next day .
late that night maui crafted a fishing line and on that fishing line he weaved on his hook made from his grand mothers jaw bone . after he hid in the bottom of his brothers canoe and stayed there till morning to go fishing. When the sun rose he heard his brothers get into the canoe and paddled out of the sight of the island callled hawaiki .
When he heard them put the anker down he new they were to far away to retern to the far away island that they called home.
Maui finally decided to reveal himself to his fellow brothers and when he did he heard them bickering about how they didn’t catch him. After a few good minutes the brothers decide to let his stay on the fishing trip.
Maui said to his brothers to paddle out even farther to catch a big fish so he did and cast his line out to sea and waited. After ten minutes he got a massive pull that nearly tiped the waka and everybody overboard he started chanting and the big fish rose up from the ocean currents and emerged Aotearoa New Zealand.

How Mangonui Got Its Name

According to some Maori myths and legends the great Polynesian   explorer and navigator Kupe sailed from Hawaiiki in his canoe called Matahouroa  to Taipa beach he made the shark Tapu and called the harbour Mangonui meaning big shark in the Maori Lanquage.

                 How Mangonui  got its name:

A beach after a storm

             A BEACH AFTER A STORM

I see a large wet tree branch emerge from the ocean currents.
I hear the pounding and the crashing of the huge monstrous  waves .
I think of why there are so many storms and dangerous wonders in the beautiful waters that surround NZ.
I feel the soft and salty sand press up against my soft and sandy feet.
I wonder if the waves of the ocean would ever  calm and be still for a while.
